SickKids Foundation announces appointment of new President
TORONTO - Patsy Anderson, Chair of the Board of SickKids
Foundation, announced today that Edward (Ted) Garrard has been appointed
president, effective July 6, 2009.
"This is an important day for our organization. We have been joined by an
individual with an outstanding reputation and long track record of success,"
said Patsy Anderson, Chair of the Board, SickKids Foundation. "Ted Garrard is
one of the top fundraising executives in Canada. We looked for and found
someone who could lead an organization of the sophistication and complexity of
SickKids Foundation, and build on our success as one of the leading
fundraising organizations in the country."
Prior to joining SickKids, Ted was Vice-President (External) at the
University of Western Ontario, a position he held since 1996. Ted began his
career in the not-for-profit sector in 1982 at The United Way of Greater
Toronto; holding the position of Vice-President Campaign from 1991-1995.
"It is an honour to have been selected to serve as president of SickKids
Foundation," said Garrard. "I look forward to joining a team of dedicated
individuals who have a shared passion and commitment to improve the health and
well-being of our children."
Recognized for his leadership, Ted was the 1997 recipient of the
"Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award" from the National Society of
Fundraising Executive Toronto Chapter. He was named the following year as one
of Canada's Top 40 under 40; and recognized by the United Way/Centraide
Canada for outstanding volunteer service.
A committed volunteer, Ted's current directorships include Imagine Canada
(Chair, 2004-2007), United Way/Centraide Canada, United Way International,
211 Canada Steering Committee and Director Ketchum Canada (National Advisory
Board).
"We are extremely pleased to have an individual of Ted's calibre join the
SickKids family," said Mary Jo Haddad, president and CEO of The Hospital for
Sick Children. "Community support through philanthropy is critical to the
overall success of SickKids and is a main reason we are regarded as one of the
world's most respected children's hospitals."
