Conestoga Students Win National Skills Medals

Kitchener - Three Conestoga entrants in the 15th Canadian Skills Competition (CSC) have come home from the Prince Edward Island event with medals that testify to their technical skills and problem-solving abilities. The CSC brings together in high-level, friendly competition Canada’s best technical and trades students, at both the secondary and the post-secondary levels.

All three previously had won gold medals earlier this month at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition held at RIM Park in Waterloo, and were part of the Team Ontario delegation to the May 20-23 national competition presented by Skills Canada in Charlottetown.

The Conestoga entrants took one gold and two bronze medals in their respective post-secondary categories.

Winning gold in the architectural design and technology event was Samuel Bunting of Simcoe. He is a final-year student in Conestoga’s Architecture - Construction Engineering Technology program.

Bronze medals went to:

- Tessie Blouin of Kitchener, who competed in the information technology office software applications event. She is completing her studies in the Office Administration - Executive program.

- Timothy Patrick of Milton, who won his medal in the website development contest. He is enrolled in the Software Engineering Technician program at Conestoga.

Skills Canada is a voluntary association of educators, business and industrial leaders, and government representatives which aims to promote the value and importance of technical careers and education to young Canadians.
