Rotman International Centre for Pension Management Releases Second Issue of Journal
By Ken McGuffin
Toronto - The second issue of a pension journal from the Rotman International Centre for Pension Management (ICPM) at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto takes a timely look at investment beliefs, risk management, and pension funds in light of the financial crisis.
The Rotman International Journal of Pension Management provides a bi-annual look at the complexity of the strategic governance and management issues faced by the pension industry.
"Pension funds are not the primary perpetrators of the global financial crisis, but they are not totally blameless either," says Keith Ambachtsheer, Director of Rotman ICPM and an adjunct professor of finance at the Rotman School. "Fortunately steps are being taken to shift the mindset of the global pension fund management community from that of a passive bystander, to a far more proactive participant. Such steps should start at home inside pension fund organizations and many of the articles in this second issue of the Journal point to ways to do that."
The Spring 2009 issue features articles from both pension fund academics and practitioners. Contributors include Jack Gray of the University of Technology, Sydney; Kees Koedijk of Tilburg University and Alfred Slager of Stork Pension Funds; Donald Raymond of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board; Robert Bertram and Barbara Zvan, of Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan; E. Philip Davis of Brunel University and Yu-Wei Hu of OECD; Keith Johnson of Wisconsin Law School and Frank Jan de Graaf of Hanze University of Applied Science; Don Ezra of Russell Investments; Roy Hoevenaars of APG, Theo Kocken of Cardano and Eduard Ponds of APG; and, Carolina Fugazza, Maela Giofré and Giovanna Nicodano of University of Turin.
The next issue of the Journal is scheduled for release in Fall 2009. This upcoming issue will focus on Innovation in Pension Design and Reform. Journal articles are available at no charge online at www.rotman.utoronto.ca/icpm/details.aspx?ContentID=223.
