Consumer prices rose 0.1% in the 12 months to May 2009, down from the 0.4% increase in April.

Statscan - The slowdown in the 12-month Consumer Price Index (CPI) was primarily the result of an 18.3% year-over-year price drop for energy products. Excluding energy, the CPI rose 2.3%.

London - The world’s first hexagonal wind tunnel, home to research that will protect us from storms and harness the power of wind, will be built at The University of Western Ontario, supported by funding announced yesterday from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). The project, led by Western Engineering professor Horia Hangan, received $9.5 million toward the total cost of $23.6 million.

CAW Urges Further Bargaining at Navistar

CHATHAM - CAW negotiators have advised Navistar Truck in Chatham, Ontario of the union's intention to bargain beyond the expiry of the current collective agreement on June 30 at 12:01 a.m. In a June 17 letter to Navistar Vice President of Manufacturing Dave Beebe and Thomas Hennigan, Navistar's director of employee relations, the union states it will not exercise the right to strike at the deadline.

TORONTO - CAW members have ratified a new 21-month collective agreement with Air Canada today by a margin of 76 per cent following a series of meetings that took place over the course of the week.
