International Multicultural Platform for Alternative Contemporary Theatre 2009

WATERLOO REGION – IMPACT O9 is a groundbreaking theatre festival taking place in Waterloo Region from September 24 to October 3 in select venues across the region. “With more than 20 programs and over 70 public presentations, IMPACT 09 brings together the local with the international, the emerging with the established and the traditional with the contemporary. It is the gift of our community, presented to our community and the world. Waterloo Region will be the epicentre of international, intercultural, alternative, and contemporary theatre this fall,” says Majdi Bou-Matar, Artistic Director of The MT Space (The Multicultural Theatre Space).

IMPACT 09 is a 10-day festival that presents the best physical theatre from China, Colombia and Hungary, alongside the latest in Canadian intercultural theatre. It provides the platform to engage in meaningful activity and discussion with over 100 performing artists from Waterloo Region and abroad. IMPACT 09 features a national 3-day symposium, co-hosted with Magnetic North Theatre Festival, to discuss issues of Canadian intercultural theatre, and a 2-day symposium developed and implemented by youth to discuss issues of youth and the stage. IMPACT 09 also features activities including master classes, discussion circles, workshop presentations, play readings, film screenings and live performances.

IMPACT 09 is the culmination of a collaborative effort of 12 arts organizations from across Waterloo Region.
