Laurier’s Public Affairs team wins international award for insideLaurier
Laurier’s insideLaurier newspaper is making headlines with a bronze medal win in an international awards program.
Waterloo - The newspaper was honoured in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence awards program in the “print internal audience tabloids and newsletters” category. Laurier was the only Canadian university represented in the category, sharing bronze with Duke University, Johns Hopkins Medicine and Stanford University. The University of Pennsylvania received gold. There was no silver medal awarded this year.
“Our goal with insideLaurier is to build community,” says Kevin Crowley, associate director: news and editorial services and supervising editor of the newspaper. “By creating connections among faculty and staff, insideLaurier helps to support the university’s community-minded and inclusive environment.”
Launched in 2008 with the tagline “Campus, Community, Connections,” insideLaurier is designed for faculty and staff, and is also distributed to local municipal, provincial and federal political representatives.
“We feature lively photos and people stories, as well as significant university news stories,” says Stacey Morrison, news and editorial officer and insideLaurier editor. “Our regular features give the Laurier community a glimpse into the work and achievements of their colleagues.”
The university’s public affairs department publishes the newspaper monthly from September to April and in June. It is also available online through the Public Affairs website: http://www.wlu.ca/homepage.php?grp_id=2543.
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., CASE is the professional organization for post-secondary education advancement professionals in alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing and other areas. Membership includes more than 3,400 educational institutions in 61 countries around the world.
