Toyota Trucks, Lexus SUVs enjoy best June ever

New Canadian built 2010 RAV4 and Lexus RX 350 set monthly June records; best ever June for Tacoma 4x4

TORONTO - Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) sold 18,600 Toyota and Lexus cars, SUVs and trucks in June (down 17.1% from June 2008). This included 17,198 Toyota models sold during the month (down 17.6%) and 1,402 Lexus models (down 10%).

Between January 1 and June 30 2009, Toyota Canada Inc. has launched 10 all-new vehicles in either the Toyota or Lexus line-ups. Three of these vehicles were passenger cars, including the 2010 Prius and the all-new ISC, both of which entered the Canadian market at the end of June. Each model focuses on improved performance and enhanced fuel economy. The other seven new vehicles were trucks/SUVs and Toyota Truck and Lexus SUV sales enjoyed their best-ever June, following a record-setting month in May, as Canadian consumers responded to Toyota Canada's "More Power, Less Fuel" strategy:

- Best June ever for TCI truck sales, at 7,349 (up 35.9% vs. June 2008).

- Best June ever for Toyota Trucks at 6,559 (up 37.1%).

- Best June ever for Lexus luxury SUVs at 790 (up 26.8%).

Highlights for Toyota in June 2009 (versus June 2008):

- Best June ever for the Toyota RAV4, with 2,615 models sold (up 49.9%). This is the sixth-straight record sales month for the Canadian-built RAV4, following a best-ever year in 2008.

- Following a record-setting May, the Toyota Tacoma 4x4 pick-up, with 943 models sold (up 38.1%) had the best June ever.

- The all new, third-generation 2010 Toyota Prius went on sale in late June, with strong sales of approximately 350 units helping to boost total Prius sales to 513 for the month.

"Toyota Trucks have captured the imagination of buyers in performance, features and resale value. They are strong, capable, comfortable and have been tested the world over, in some of the most challenging conditions, from polar winters to the heat of equatorial desert and jungle," said Warren Orton, Director at TCI. Commenting on public response to the launch of the all-new 2010 Prius, Mr. Orton said, "The strong initial sales of the third-generation Toyota Prius tell us that Canadians agree that the world's best-selling hybrid just got better. Furthermore, our hybrid models continue to account for approximately one quarter of sales for those models where conventional and hybrid options are available, such as Camry and Highlander."

The Toyota Real Value Event will provide Canadians with additional incentives in July, including 0% finance offers over 36 months on two made-in Canada favourites - the 2010 Toyota Corolla and 2010 Toyota Matrix - plus many 2009 model year fuel-friendly models including the Yaris (4-door and hatch), Prius, Camry Hybrid and RAV4. - Best June ever for the Canadian-built Lexus RX 350. The all-new, third-generation, 2010 model helped power June RX 350 sales to 686 (up 74.6%), for its fifth-straight record month.

"There are many good reasons why the Lexus RX series is our most popular luxury model in Canada: Our guests appreciate its versatility, comfort and performance, embrace its advanced yet intuitive use of technology to deliver maximum moments of luxury, and love the fact that it's built right here in Canada," said Larry Hutchinson, Director of Lexus in Canada. "Sales of the new RX 350 and the RX450h, launched last week, confirm that Canadians are looking for advanced technology designs that deliver exceptional luxury motoring experiences. We're pleased to welcome new and returning guests, and look forward to helping them shape their own pursuit of perfection."
