Laurier students travel to China to lead workshops on business and entrepreneurship

WATERLOO — Senior business students from Wilfrid Laurier University will travel to China beginning July 3 to lead workshops in business and entrepreneurship.

Erich Stilling, Amira Dhalla, Dana Duncan, Jason Ramdhan and Stephen Jensen will conduct workshops at two campuses of Concord College of Sino-Canada located in Beijing and Shenzhen, China. This privately owned school was the first of its kind in China to offer a Canadian curriculum. Students graduate with diplomas from both Chinese and Canadian school boards. More than 600 graduates a year attend Canadian universities.

“I believe this to be a very unique initiative for our students and for the high school students in China who will be exposed to entrepreneurism for the first time,” said Peter Donahue, director of Laurier International, who is helping to arrange the trip.

The Laurier contingent will spend four days at each school holding workshops for Grade 11 and 12 students in business strategy, human resource management, marketing, operations and management accounting.

The Laurier participants are members of The Link, a student-run organization in Laurier’s School of Business and Economics. Each year the organization hosts a Leadership in Business Conference for Ontario high school students who are considering a career in business.

This will be the second year members of The Link will travel to China to further develop this mutually beneficial business partnership.

“It’s an opportunity for us to share our business knowledge and to showcase all that Laurier has to offer,” said Erich Stilling, a fourth-year business student and president of The Link. “Our team is very excited to be able to lead this initiative — this will prove to be a rewarding experience for all parties involved.”
