Open Text donates content management software to University of Waterloo
WATERLOO - The University of Waterloo will have a more dynamic website with up-to-date information for the public and campus visitors as a result of web content management software donated by Open Text, a global leader in enterprise content management and Canada's largest software company.
The web content management capabilities will enable Waterloo to manage its website, foster consistent branding and refresh content.
"Open Text's Web Solutions will allow us to more easily manage our institutional web space and enhance internal and external communications," said Alan George, associate provost, information systems and technology. "The software does a good job in the creation, distribution and management of content, including updates of homepages."
The company's software offers a rich set of tools that will allow Waterloo to manage and deliver a broad set of information to users over the web. These tools enable site managers to better control the look and feel of Waterloo's websites, along with the information displayed on them. The software also promotes better search engine optimization and accessibility.
Open Text began on the University of Waterloo's campus in the late 1980s with a group of university researchers who were working on a project to convert the entire Oxford English Dictionary - all 60 million words - to electronic form, a major feat in pre-Internet days. The work formed the basis for the Internet's first search engine technology, which was soon adopted by Yahoo.
Early last year, Open Text announced a partnership with the University of Waterloo to create one of the world's largest centres dedicated to research and innovation in digital media and Web 2.0 technologies for business, government and cultural applications, which will be part of the Stratford Institute.
