Municipality Hires Director, Economic Development Services

Chatham-Kent has a new Director of Economic Development Services. Kathy Weiss will be joining the Municipality of Chatham-Kent in her new role on September 21.

Weiss has an extensive background in business and economic development, most recently as Director of Business Development with the City of Kitchener where she managed the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre and the Kitchener Market facility.  Formerly, she was General Manager of the Chamber of Commerce in St. Catharines.

Weiss has earned a Masters Certificate in Municipal Leadership from York University, a diploma in Business Administration from Niagara College and a Certificate in Economic Development from the University of Waterloo, and has completed an international Business Retention and Expansion Certification Program.  Weiss was headhunted by an executive search firm and chosen from a field of candidates by an interview panel composed of municipal councillors and senior administrators.

“We undertook an extensive national search,” said General Manager of Community Development and Planning Services, Don Shropshire.  “Kathy Weiss was clearly the strongest candidate. We are excited to have her on board.  Her long track record in economic development, her personal network of useful contacts and her proven ability to forge strong partnerships will serve the community of Chatham-Kent very well.  I look forward to having her as part of my team.”

“I wish to thank Aileen Murray, who acted as director for the past two years,” added Shropshire.  “We are pleased that Aileen will be continuing her service to the community as Manager, Business Attraction and Retention.”
