Wind Energy Symposium Promises to Bring Together Component Manufacturers, Government and Municipal Representatives, and Renewable Energy Expert in an Open Forum

Waterloo Region – the Manufacturing Innovation Network (MIN), an innovative online community that connects over 1,000 manufacturers in the Waterloo Region, is pleased to announce the Wind Energy Symposium on August 26, 2009.

The Symposium will take place at Conestoga College’s Doon Campus, in Kitchener. Speakers from London (via webcast) and the Waterloo Region include Ontario Renewable Energy Expert, Helge Wittholz, along with representatives from the MIN, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and CanWEA. Speakers will present advances made in the Wind Energy Sector, supporting potential for economic development and growth. A detailed agenda has been posted at www.waterloomin.com/windenergysymposium.

"The MIN is thrilled to support the Southwestern Ontario Wind Energy Symposium and help local manufacturers explore opportunities in the rapidly growing wind power sector. We see many opportunities for manufacturers to diversify and participate in the North American Wind Energy Supply Chain and utilize their production capacity and manufacturing expertise.” – Valerie Bradford MIN Advisory Board Chair

According to recent statistics, the Canadian Wind Energy Sector grew at an unprecedented rate of 51% between 2000 and 2006 and holds great potential for a growing manufacturing sector in Southwestern Ontario. The Region’s overriding objective for these Southern Ontario communities is to consolidate a cluster of manufacturing organizations qualified for wind energy activities in an online directory of suppliers and provide these organizations with support for business development in the Wind Energy Sector.

“Waterloo Region and Southwestern Ontario provide fertile locations along with a skilled and talented workforce in advanced manufacturing for this growing and dynamic cluster. With the introduction of the Province of Ontario’s Green Energy Act, including lucrative Feed In Tariffs (FIT), we are in an excellent position to attract partnerships and collaboration with global suppliers in the Wind Energy value chain“. - John Jung, CEO – Canada’s Technology Triangle Inc

Hosted locally online for Waterloo Region manufacturers in the MIN, the extensive survey process involved input from the Economic Development organizations in London, Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, Huron County, Guelph and Waterloo Region. The initiative was made possible by support from the Invest Canada - Community Initiatives (ICCI) pillar of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade's Global Commerce Support Program.

The Symposium is brought to you by Canada's Technology Triangle Inc in partnership with the Cities of Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo and Guelph and the Townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot, Woolwich and The Waterloo Region Manufacturing Innovation Network.
