Registrations Skyrocket at Carleton University

Ottawa – Following the launch of several new initiatives and an aggressive recruitment campaign, registrations for undergraduate students at Carleton University for 2009-2010 are up by seven per cent.

That overall number includes growth in registrations of seven per cent for the Ottawa area, five per cent in the greater Toronto area and 13 per cent among international students.

“Students have the opportunity to engage with hands-on research both on campus and in the community,” says Roseann O’Reilly Runte, president and vice-chancellor of Carleton University. “Carleton students work with professors who are leading their fields in innovative approaches to solving real-world problems.”

Recent initiatives such as exciting new programs and a comprehensive package of student support services called Carleton Complete have attracted students to Canada’s Capital University.

Carleton Complete offers ongoing academic support, including an early warning system to highlight potential problems and a co-curricular transcript that provides students with an official record of their extra-curricular activities.

The university also offers one of the most generous scholarship programs in Canada.

Carleton embarked on an aggressive recruitment campaign to ensure students from across the city, the country and around the world were exposed to the advantages of studying at the university.

In addition to recruitment events in Ottawa, Toronto, across Canada and parts of the United States, Carleton recruiters made 240 international school visits in 32 countries.

Carleton offers a personalized recruitment approach with one-on-one pre-admission appointments and meetings with faculty members. Online efforts have also been bolstered including weekly online chats for potential new students.

“Students are attracted by the personalized approach,” says Suzanne Blanchard, associate vice-president (enrolment management) and university registrar. “From the moment a student applies to Carleton to the moment they graduate, we provide personalized service to ensure their future success.”
