100-Mile Harvest Dinner at Black Creek Pioneer Village

Celebrating Locally Sourced Gourmet Cuisine on September 26

TORONTO - Black Creek Pioneer Village, Toronto’s living history museum will celebrate the bounty of the fall harvest with a special 100-Mile Harvest Dinner on Sept. 26. The dinner will be held in the fully renovated restaurant of the new Black Creek Historic Brewery and will feature a selection of local craft beers. The 100-Mile Harvest Dinner is an opportunity for people to discover fine local cuisine in a uniquely beautiful setting.

Countless blogs, books and articles have chronicled the joys and challenges of eating locally sourced foods in support of more sustainable agriculture and a reduced carbon footprint.

“It’s about a renewed appreciation of food and drink,” said Geri Smith, Marketing Supervisor, Special Events and Market Development, Black Creek Pioneer Village. “The more we know about our food, and the path it has taken to get to our table, the more we can really enjoy preparing and sharing our meals.”

Diners will experience a delicious three-course gourmet meal made from locally grown ingredients paired with selected Ontario craft beers. The dinner will start with a delightful tomato and fennel soup, followed by a main course of seared pork chops with apple chutney served with seasonal vegetables and roasted potatoes. A vegetarian option is also available. For dessert, guests will dig into a hearty pumpkin pie topped with fresh whipped cream.

“This will be a relaxed full-evening experience for our guests,” explained Smith. “Along with a great meal, they will have an opportunity to meet our Head Chef, Maria Honeychurch, and Brewmaster Ed Koren.” The evening will also include a tour of the new Black Creek Historic Brewery, and a chance to visit the Village’s farms.

“As part of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Black Creek Pioneer Village wants to do its part to support The Living City initiative,” said Marty Brent, General Manager of Black Creek Pioneer Village. “Both in looking back at our past, and in looking forward with new events like this, we hope to help people find a more personal relationship with our environment. We’re very excited about the 100 Mile Harvest Dinner. Who knew going green was this delicious?”

The 100-Mile Harvest Dinner starts at 6:00 p.m. on Sept. 26 in the Black Creek Brewery Restaurant located in Black Creek Pioneer Village. Tickets for the full evening are $75 or $67 for members, excluding taxes and gratuities. Reservations are required. Call 416-667-6295 for tickets.
