Local Secondary Schools Benefit From CKKW-FM Canadian Talent Development Program

Waterloo Region - Twenty-one public and Catholic secondary schools in Waterloo Region have received exciting news to begin the school year… over the next seven years secondary school music programs will receive a total of $235,600 from the CKKW-FM Canadian Talent Development Program to purchase much needed musical instruments and sheet music.

This generous donation program -- intended to support the Canadian musical artists of tomorrow -- was a component of an approved proposal by CTV Limited to the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to convert Kitchener radio station CKKW AM (Oldies 1090) to the FM Band as radio station KFUN 99.5.

Both school boards welcome the grant and the opportunity to incorporate this annual commitment of revenue to resource acquisitions for secondary school music programs for the next number of years.

Paul Cugliari, General Manager of the local CHUM Radio stations, is honoured that the company’s commitment to Waterloo Region is making such a significant contribution to the education of our youth; the future music makers and future audiences of the future.
