University of Waterloo’s School of Pharmacy Launches Mini-Pharmacy School Lecture Series

Kitchener – The University of Waterloo’s School of Pharmacy is pleased to present an exciting new program specially designed for the general public. Beginning October 13 and running for 6 consecutive weeks UW’s Mini-Pharmacy School is a unique opportunity for 160 participants to discover and explore fascinating topics in pharmacy and healthcare today.

This inaugural new program is comprised of a series of 6 lectures that provide participants with a chance to learn directly from the experts in a relaxed, informative and entertaining atmosphere. There are no pre-requisites, no homework or exams! Each evening participants will enjoy seminars presented by instructors from UW’s School of Pharmacy. Topics range from: over-the- counter drugs, natural health products, brain disorders like Parkinson’s disease and Epilepsy, and drugs of abuse. (Complete Schedule Follows) Participants will be encouraged to get actively involved by asking questions and interacting directly with presenters and students from the School of Pharmacy. Attendees will also receive a reference binder with speaker notes and a certificate of completion at a short ‘graduation’ ceremony on November 17.

The UW School of Pharmacy’s Mini-Pharmacy School is designed around an extremely successful model that many teaching institutions worldwide have used. Universities including Queens, McMaster and the University of Toronto have offered mini medical schools for years and the School of Pharmacy hopes that their Mini Pharmacy School is as well received by the general public and community-at-large. It is an exceptional opportunity for individuals to gain a better understanding of the health issues Pharmacists and heath care providers deal with on a daily basis.
