Local post-secondary institutions host Canada's largest career fair

WATERLOO - Over 180 employers and more than 3,000 students and recent graduates of the region's four post-secondary institutions will explore careers and employment prospects tomorrow at Canada's largest post-secondary Career Fair of its kind.

The event, now in its 16th year, will be held at RIM Park in Waterloo from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The fair is open to students and alumni from the University of Guelph, Conestoga College, Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Waterloo. A shuttle bus service will be available at all four institutions throughout the day.

"While economic news in the past year has not been positive, we feel encouraged by the sizable number of organizations still taking part in the fair, something we can attribute to the strength of our graduates and academic programs at the four local institutions," said Carol Ann Olheiser, employment co-ordinator at Waterloo.

Students and alumni will have the opportunity to meet with hundreds of Canadian and international employers and gather vital information on careers.

In turn, employers get an opportunity to introduce their organization to future employees and reduce recruitment costs by connecting with many highly skilled candidates on the same day in one location.

Among the participating employers are: Bloomberg, Com Dev, Canadian Tire Corporation, Agfa HealthCare, Manitoba Hydro, McCain Foods (Canada), Staples Canada, Region of Waterloo Public Health, Yelp, Inc., Direct Energy, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Molson, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, TD Canada Trust, Sherwin-Williams Company, Stantec Consulting and Thales Rail Signalling Solutions Inc.

Admission is free with a valid student/alumni card from any one of the four participating institutions. The fair is not open to the general public.
