Canadian Institutes of Health Research experts discuss the impact of poverty on health
OTTAWA At least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day and 25,000 children die each day due to poverty, according to the World Bank and UNICEF. In Canada, more than 12 per cent of the working age population lives in poverty, and $63,600 is the median income for families with two or more people, states a new Conference Board of Canada report. People who live in poverty are often unable to meet basic housing, food and security needs, and they have a greater risk of health problems than people who do not live in poverty.
