Women Politicians Encourage More Women to Take the Lead in Politics
TORONTO - Ontario's NDP leader and Hamilton MPP Andrea
Horwath will be joined by Parkdale-High Park MPP Cheri DiNovo and NDP
President and former MP Peggy Nash for a forum on why Canadians must do more
to elect women to all levels of government - tonight Monday, October 5 in
Brampton, Ontario.
With a possible federal election looming, the women's message is all the
more pertinent.
"The parliaments and legislatures of this country don't look like the
workplaces and communities they supposedly represent. Canada is a diverse
country but too often the politicians we elect are anything but," said
Horwath. "We've come a long way but we have a lot further to go. We believe
that more young women will choose to get involved in politics if they see
more women in important roles in government."
The event is jointly sponsored by the Ontario NDP Women's Committee, the
CAW Local 1285 Women's Committee and Elect Women Everywhere.
