Letter to the Editor
Hello,
I enjoyed the article regarding the entrance of Visa and Mastercard
into the Canadian Debit Card markets. As a Visa shareholder, I even
would have a slightly biased preference for this. One of the
arguments made for the big 2's entrance into Oh Canada was to offer a
points program (ie: Air Miles) as an added advantage over Interact.
To be honest, this is the best business model in order to enter the
market, especially if they can match or beat Interact's fees. One
point I wanted to bring up, is regarding President's Choice Financial.
Currently, their debit card's are the only kind in the Canadian
market place that will give off points (PC points -groceries,etc).
Additionally, their accounts come with no fees! Although no fees, no
service has proven to be true for them, their debit points card are
highly effective, especially at bringing people into their stores. I
feel it would be in Visa and Mastercard's best interest to observe how
PC Financial has used this points program to their advantage, as they
are the single only points program for debit cards in Canada.
Keep the articles coming...
Best Regards,
Andrew Spinner
