CANADIAN WOMEN’S BIATHLON TEAM VISITING TRI-CITIES
Fundraiser scheduled to support National Team’s quest for gold at Vancouver 2010 Winter Games
Kitchener - With Biathlon (the combination of high intensity cross-country skiing with the extreme concentration of precision rifle
shooting) possibly being one of the most difficult Winter Game sports to master, the National Women’s Team has
managed to overcome many challenges and excel in spite of very little formal support.
In the spirit of supporting the tradition of shooting sports and the belief that everyone’s efforts can make a difference to Canada’s performance at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games, The Gun Centre will be bringing three members of the Canadian Women’s Biathlon Team to Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge for a fundraising extravaganza from October 15 to 17.
Zina Kocher, Megan Imrie and Rosanna Crawford, from the Canadian Women’s Biathlon Team members will be in attendance for a three-day fundraising event to increase awareness of the Canadian Women’s Biathlon team, the sport, its challenges, and to generate financial support that is vital to the team’s quest to reach the podium at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games
During this time, the team will be visiting a number of schools and colleges to talk with students about their experience in
competition, the demands of the sport and how they got into it, as well as being Ambassadors for Canada on a global
stage. Their stay will wrap up on October 17 with a final fundraising event at The Gun Centre where everyone is welcome
to get autographs and photos with the ladies, enjoy a few games and a barbeque.
“We are absolutely ecstatic that many of the schools the team will be visiting have taken the initiative to create their own
fundraising activities to support and welcome our Canadian Biathletes,” said Gun Centre Director, Philip O’Dell. “We are
also offering Bronze, Silver and Gold sponsorship levels for companies or individuals that wish to assist with supporting
these phenomenal athletes.”
