Ontario Act helps Solar leap forward
OTTAWA The Canadian Solar Industries Association is pleased with recent events showing the Green Energy and Green Economy Act and new Feed in Tariffs are sending encouraging growth signals to the solar industry.
The industry celebrated the activation of a 9.1 megawatt (MW) solar PV project in eastern Ontario Oct. 5 under the Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP), which brought the province into the top ten solar jurisdictions in North America. Two more projects about to go live are expected to put Ontario in with the top 10 U.S. States for solar deployment, ahead of Connecticut, Oregon and Massachusetts.
No other Canadian province rivals Ontario, and CanSIA points to the provincial government’s support for this success.
“We applaud the Ontario Government on their ambitious goals. The recent Act and FIT program hold the promise of helping Ontario retain its prominence as one of the leading jurisdictions in North America for solar,” said Patty Hargreaves, CanSIA Chair of the Board of Directors.
“We are working with our members to review the FIT program particularly as it applies during transition to identify where tweaks may be needed to ensure we can achieve the government’s goals and make Ontario a world solar energy leader,” said Elizabeth McDonald, CanSIA President.
One of the key objectives of Ontario’s Act is to create 50,000 green energy jobs. CanSIA continues to work cooperatively with the Ontario Government on this target.
The Canadian Solar Industries Association’s mission is to develop a strong, efficient, ethical and professional Canadian solar industry, able to service an expanding domestic energy market, to provide innovative solar solutions to world energy problems, and to play a major role in promoting the transition to a solar energy future worldwide.
