Sutherland-Schultz Ltd. hosts 4th annual Industrial Careers Night

Kitchener - On Wednesday, October 21, 2009, in partnership with Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) and the Waterloo Catholic School Board, Sutherland-Schultz Ltd. (SSL) is hosting the 4th annual Industrial Careers Night.

The event, targeted at high school students, aims to educate and create interest in the industrial careers for our youth. Creating a fun learning environment for the students, activities include: welding a tool box together, soldering a pipe puzzle, constructing a steel fabricated building and demonstrating the use of PLC, pneumatic controls and basic wiring techniques while using a pinball machine. The students walk away with a much more comprehensive understanding of construction/industrial skilled trades.

With the consistent focus on Mechanical, Electrical, Millwrighting/Rigging, Ironworking and Metal Fabrication trades, this year SSL and OYAP are including stations that incorporate other areas of industrial careers. Health & Safety, a vital role in any construction trade will showcase the importance of strong health and safety knowledge and adherence. Also, due to this year’s dual credits in business a showcase of careers in estimating, sales and project management will be demonstrated.

OYAP programs are designed to offer student’s specialized training that provides the foundations required to transition from high school into college, university, and apprenticeship or the workforce.
