"Energy ministers from industrialized economies pledged Thursday to strengthen their commitment to help emerging and developing countries introduce energy-efficient technologies as part of efforts to fight global warming.... Ministers from the member countries of the International Energy Agency (IEA) said they will stimulate cooperation with emerging economies such as China, Russia and India, which have been increasingly dominant in world energy consumption...." [Kyodo/Factiva]
The IHT adds that "...among the measures announced were the involvement of the three countries in certain agency committees, the establishment of an official 'hot line' with China on sharing energy information and initiatives to work with Beijing on clean coal and to improve energy statistics. With India, the agency will establish a 30-member committee to help develop green energy technology. And the agency will carry out a review of the Russian energy sector to help Moscow attain its emissions-reducing goals...." [The International Herald Tribune/Factiva]
In related news, Dow Jones reports that "...IEA member countries committed to a goal to cut developed countries' emissions by 80 percent or more and to halve them globally by 2050, the organization said....
