Hobo Film Festival pulls into Grand River Film Festival

“For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.” – Robert Louis Stevenson.

KITCHENER – As a unique addition to this season’s screening schedule, The Grand River Film Festival is proud to present the Hobo Film Festival – a touring film series showcasing the hobo and tramp culture in the United States.

According to makers of the documentary style film, the development of this American subculture of hobos and tramps – long termed homeless people who travel from place to place – can be attributed to the railroad industry in America and how it has formed modern society. The series of short films featured in the Hobo Film Festival will illustrate how railroads were first used by depression-era job seekers and how it developed as a result as the media for a society of hobos to grow.

As part of the Hobo Film Festival portion of GRFF, patrons will view “Hobo” by filmmaker John T. Davis along with the photography of Hans Hansen who captures the journey of a tramp with images. Both the film and the photography will document the experience of hopping boxcars and traveling by train across the United States and into parts of Canada and Mexico.

The Grand River Film Festival runs from October 22nd until the 25th. For more information and a full screening schedule, visit the Festival’s website at www.GRFF.ca or the Hobo Film Festival’s site at www.myspace.com/hobofilmfest.
