MPP Jones Calls for eHealth Public Inquiry

Queen’s Park –MPP Sylvia Jones (Dufferin-Caledon) echoes calls from her Progressive Conservative colleagues for a full public inquiry into the Liberal billion dollar spending scandal at eHealth.

The Progressive Conservatives began calling for a public inquiry last week, on the wake of the Auditor General’s report, which found that the McGuinty Liberals spent one billion dollars, most of which was funnelled to Liberal friendly consulting firms. A public inquiry would dig deeper than the Auditor’s Report, and would determine to what degree former Health Minister George Smitherman and Premier McGuinty were involved. McGuinty has dismissed the suggestion of such inquiry.

“The only way Ontarians will get the answers they deserve is through a public inquiry,” said Jones. “The fact that he will not open the eHealth mess up to a public inquiry implies that there may be more that the McGuinty Liberals are trying to hide.”

There are still many questions about this misuse of taxpayer dollars that need to be answered. Ontario taxpayers deserve to know the full details of those who got rich from the eHealth scandal, and who ordered government officials to block the Auditor General from probing the eHealth mess.

“Ontario families have a right to be concerned,” said Jones. “Many families in Ontario do not even have access to a family physician and the Liberal government is handing out consulting contracts amounting to one billion dollars to their Liberal friends. The taxpayers of Ontario deserve transparency from their government, and I join my Leader Tim Hudak in calls for a full public inquiry which will ensure this.”
