Cambridge Celebrates Local Government Week with New Class of Waterloo Architectural Students

Cambridge - Talk about your lunch and learn opportunity! Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig and Director of Facilities Bob Paul hosted a class of architectural students from the University of Waterloo’s Cambridge campus as part of ‘Local Government Week’.

Local Government Week runs from October 18 – 24. It’s a partnership between The Province of Ontario, Association of Municipal Managers Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario, and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, designed to celebrate the key role that Ontario local governments play in helping to define the character, priorities, amenities and physical make-up of communities.

Mayor Doug Craig kicked off the event at noon in Cambridge City Hall. He says, “The City is pleased to engage students in our community in issues of local government. The University is a big part of who we are as a community, so having a lunch and learn opportunity is very fitting.” The City of Cambridge has a Youth Advisory Committee and Councillor Rick Cowsill represents council on the group.

The one week celebration is focused on schools and enhancing the understanding of the role that government plays and how this impacts the lives of its residents. “Educating young people for responsible citizenship is critical to ensuring the vitality and growth of any community,” adds Mayor Craig.
