What happens When The Education Ends
Toronto - Employee Placement company Careerify recently launched a survey targeted to career counsellors, directors, and managers at various universities and colleges across Canada. With nearly a 70% participation rate of total Canadian post-secondary institutions, Careerify sought to answer a single question: how do Canadian universities and colleges help students and alumni find careers through the use of social networking?
It is of no question that the current state of the economy has painted a dire picture for students and recent grads; sceptics alike believe that it will take at least a year for the economy to bounce back. In fact, 71% of respondents in the survey indicated that the student and alumni unemployment rate has increased by nearly 10% in prior year. This combined with the fact that 83% of participants stated that the employer involvement rate at their institution has significantly decreased (approximately 15%), makes the issue that much more pressing. The question then becomes, what have Canadian postsecondary institutions done to combat the problem?
