Laurier holds official reopening of 50-metre pool today

WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University will hold an opening ceremony for its 50-metre pool on Friday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. after completing a major $4.2-million renovation project over the past five months.

The opening ceremony will include:

* A “ceremonial plunge” with representatives of local community user groups.

* Remarks from: Dr. Max Blouw, Laurier president and vice-chancellor; Peter Braid, Kitchener-Waterloo MP; Leeanna Pendergast, Kitchener-Conestoga MPP; Chris Bennett, on behalf of KW Aquatic Alliance; Brenda Halloran, City of Waterloo mayor; Christina Weylie, City of Kitchener councillor; Peter Baxter, Laurier’s director of Athletics and Recreation, and Laura Sheridan, Wilfrid Laurier University Student Union president.

The renovations were made possible through generous donations from Laurier students, community users, the provincial and federal governments, and the cities of Waterloo and Kitchener.
