International Scholarships Broaden Student Horizons At The University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University
Waterloo - Students from the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University will learn new languages and skills studying abroad through the Ontario International Education Opportunity Scholarship (OIEOS).
The government is investing in the following institutions for scholarships to help students study abroad:
- University of Waterloo - $215,000 to provide 86 scholarships
- Wilfrid Laurier University - $120,000 to provide 48 scholarships
In addition, student refugees from some of the world’s areas of greatest conflict will have an opportunity to study at Ontario colleges and universities as a result of The World University Service of Canada’s (WUSC) Student Refugee Program.
In an increasingly global economy, Ontario is helping to prepare future leaders by creating more opportunities for Ontario’s students to study abroad through scholarships and student exchanges. The province is also working to make the province a destination of choice to attract international students and build future economic links.
“Giving students the opportunity to study abroad not only allows them to receive a first class education but encourages them to be innovative, creative and independent in the global economy.”
- Leeanna Pendergast, MPP-Kitchener-Conestoga
“Supporting international postsecondary education is key to Ontario’s future economic strength. Knowledge of other cultures and an understanding of the world are increasingly recognized as key attributes for tomorrow’s corporate leaders.
- John Milloy, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.
