Guelph High School Curlers to Learn From the Pros Through School of Rock Program
GUELPH On Thursday, November 26 at 5:00 p.m., 48 junior curlers from the Guelph high school curling league will participate in a fun and interactive on-ice clinic with members of Team Dale Matchett (Bradford, Ont.) at the Guelph Curling Club as part of the Capital One School of Rock program.
Designed to provide Canada’s junior curlers with an educational and memorable experience, skip Dale Matchett and lead Shawn Kaufman will oversee a 90-minute instructional session that will focus on skill development.
The Capital One School of Rock program is one of the key events taking place during the lead up to The National, the second leg of the men’s 2009-10 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series.
One of the rising foursomes in Canadian curling, Team Matchett will compete in their second career Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event in January when they take to the ice at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph, Ont. for The National. Among their career highlights, Team Matchett is a seven-time Ontario Curling Tour event champion and the 2007-08 Ontario Curling Tour Champions.
Scheduled to take place from January 6-10, 2010, The National is one of the last major international events prior to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Featuring 18 of the world’s top foursomes, the field for The National will include several 2010 Olympic Winter Games qualifiers, including Canada’s Vancouver 2010 representative.
As a participant in the Capital One School of Rock program, each junior curler will receive two free tickets to attend the championship final of The National. The participants will also have the opportunity to compete in an informal pick-up game on championship ice at the Sleeman Centre the morning of The National’s championship game.
