Free Parking in Downtown Cambridge City Lots in December

Leaf Pickup Concludes – Snow Service Reminder

Cambridge - Yesterday's dusting of snow means that winter maintenance services will soon be in full swing at the City of Cambridge. As crews conclude the seasonal leaf pick up program, the team at Public Works wishes to remind citizens of a few things about snow removal:

§ Street parking is prohibited between 2:30 am and 6:00 am year long but is particularly important during the winter months during snow clearing operations.

§ The winter maintenance program is a 24 hour, seven days-a-week operation. It focuses on 24 plow routes within the City of Cambridge; eight are considered primary routes which include regional roads and main arteries. The next priority is residential locations.

§ The City maintains a fleet of 28 plows, ten of which are equipped with spreaders. Continual refinements to salt spreading are made to limit negative impact on the environment.

§ Snow removal on sidewalks maintained by the City of Cambridge will be cleared 24 hours after a snowfall.

§ Residents are required to clear snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their property within 24 hours of a snow fall for safety and accessibility reasons.

§ People removing their own snow or ice should not deposit it on the roadway.

§ If residents cannot clear their own sidewalk due to health or mobility issues, contact Cambridge Home Support - Meals on Wheels at 519.740.9121 to enquire about assistance.

§ To report a concern with the snow removal by-law anytime by email at bylaws@cambridge.ca or fill out the online by-law form at www.cambridge.ca/bylaws. Weekdays during office hours residents may call 519.740.4613.

§ To contact the Public Works Division regarding snow removal call 519.621.0740

Free parking in public lots in the downtown cores of Galt, Hespeler and Preston kicks off today. During December, 21 city-operated lots will be free. The program began in 2007 as a way to foster and encourage people to support downtown merchants. The ‘Toys for Tickets’ program also begins today. Happy Holidays from the City of Cambridge!
