Former Bank of Canada General Counsel Mark Jewett joins Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP

OTTAWA - Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP (Gowlings) is pleased to announce that Mark Jewett, QC, former General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at the Bank of Canada, has joined the firm as a partner in the Financial Services Industry Group. Mr. Jewett will provide clients with strategic regulatory and legal advice both nationally and internationally.

Mr. Jewett has extensive experience in the financial services area. He provided guidance and comprehensive legal advice to the Bank of Canada and its board on the legislative and legal underpinnings of Canada's financial system. His experience in financial and fiscal matters includes General Counsel, Department of National Revenue; Tax Counsel and General Director, Tax Policy Branch, Department of Finance; and Assistant Deputy Minister and Counsel to the Department . He previously held senior positions at the Department of Justice where he was Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Public Law; in practice with an international law firm in New York; and with the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission in Brussels.
