CAW Applies for Union Vote at Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino
NIAGARA, ON - The CAW announced yesterday that the union has
made its official application to the Ontario Labour Relations Board for a vote
at Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino, both in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
After many months of mobilizing activity in the two locations, well over
half of the 2,700 casino workers have already expressed their willingness to
join the CAW by signing union cards.
"The momentum and excitement that has built-up in the past months clearly
demonstrates that workers believe they will be best served by a union in these
workplaces," said CAW National President Ken Lewenza.
"We have already made important gains for the over 7,000 gaming workers
represented by our union and look forward to doing the same for workers at
Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino."
Voting is expected to happen five business days after the application for
certification is filed with the Labour Board and will take place over the
course of two days.
The CAW is the largest gaming union in the country, representing workers
at Caesars Windsor Casino, Brantford Charity Casino, Slots at Sudbury Downs,
Great Blue Heron Casino, Edgewater Casino and the Woodbine Racetrack as well
as other locations.
