Woolwich “Shoots and Scores” a top 5 Position in the Kraft Hockeyville 2009 Contest

Saturday night (February 8, 2009) Woolwich, Ontario was awarded one of the Top 5 spots in the Canada Wide Kraft Hockeyville 2009 Contest. This win alone guarantees Woolwich $25,000 towards the new Dan Snyder Memorial Arena.

Of course Woolwich has its eye on the top prize of $100,000 and an NHL Pre- Season game to be played in Elmira as well as the bragging rights of being crowned Canada’s Hockeyville 2009!

On February 13th and 14th CBC will be in Woolwich filming a variety of Kraft Hockeyville celebrations to be aired live during the February 14th CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada broadcast. CBC’s Cassie Campbell and NHL Alumni Steve (Stumpy) Thomas will be on hand to join in the celebrations and to experience first hand the excitement and community support this campaign has brought. The schedule of weekend activities will be posted on www.woolwichhockeyville.ca.

Momentum is building towards a jam packed weekend of community activities, in an effort to prove to Canada that “Woolwich is Hockeyville 2009”. Details of those activities will be released later this week.

Residents are encouraged to continue to decorate their homes and businesses to show CBC our community support. Children and adults alike are encouraged to “beard up” using fake or real mustaches and beards to show our community spirit and team unity.

Voting for the crown of Kraft Hockeyville Canada 2009 will start up again after the final community is revealed on February 28th and the winner will be revealed on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada, Saturday March 7th. Woolwich is hoping that all of Ontario will support their endeavour by voting as much as they can to bring the title of Kraft Hockeyville back to Ontario.
