Waterloo Region Community Safety & Crime Prevention Council Elects New Executive, New Chair & Vice-Chair Announced

Waterloo Region – At its regular meeting last Friday, February 13, 2009, members of the Community Safety & Crime Prevention Council elected John Shewchuk, of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, as Chair of the Council and Thomas Brenner of Renison College School of Social Work (University of Waterloo) as Vice-Chair of the Council for the 2009 term.

John Shewchuk, Senior Manager of Public Affairs and Executive Officer for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, most recently served as Vice-Chair and has been a member of the CS&CPC since 2007. He replaces Brent Thomlison, Deputy Chief of Police, who is stepping down after one term as Chair and will remain active on Council’s Executive as Past Chair. The 2009 CS&CPC Executive is comprised of the following representatives:

Thomas Brenner, Vice-Chair (Community Representative)
Brent Thomlison, Past Chair (Waterloo Regional Police Services)
Shelley Adams (City of Kitchener, Community & Corporate Planning)
Sandy Bell (R.O.O.F)
Kathryn McGarry (Community Representative)
Wayne Morris (Conestoga College)

The Community Safety and Crime Prevention Council is an advisory committee to the Region of Waterloo and consists of 39 members representing the community-at -large, social services, education, health, planning, justice, police, and community agencies among others.
