Private equity fizzles as M&A volume drops

Canadian deals decline two years in a row

TORONTO - Canadian mergers and acquisitions (M&A) deal volume fell again this year, according to an analysis completed by KPMG Corporate Finance. There were 2,110 completed M&A deals last year involving Canadian companies, for a dollar value of approximately US $129 billion, according to data supplied by Thomson Reuters SDC. Although the number of deals was down approximately 4% from the previous year, total deal values were down 20% from 2008.
