Crawford Receives 2009 Corporate Tree Hugger Award

Kitchener - Crawford & Company (Canada) Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been recognized by The 10,000 Trees Project of KW Region for there efforts in environmental preservation through the planting of hundreds of trees during the 2009 Crawford Global Day of Service. The Corporate Tree Hugger Award is given each year to recipients that have make a significant contribution to the efforts of 10,000 Trees Project be it through volunteer hours and/or financial contribution.

“We at The 10,000 Trees Project are delighted to have a partnership with such a forward thinking and creative company,” said Barbara Larke as she presented the award to Crawford. “Indeed this is a company that truly demonstrates its belief in the importance of ‘thinking globally and acting locally’.”

During the presentation, the 10,000 Trees committee made very special and specific reference to the significance of Crawford’s global initiative, and mentioned a number of team events which took place across Canada, including, but not limited to:

- Calgary: Through The Mustard Seed Ministry, approximately 50 volunteers prepared/served lunch to the homeless and the collected clothes and food which they donated to the ministry for distribution

- Ottawa, Renfrew and Brockville: collected food donations for Ottawa Food Bank

- Toronto RMS: employees held a food drive and delivered items to the Daily Bread Food Bank

- Kitchener/Waterloo: Employees planted trees through the 10,000 Trees Project to create a Crawford-made and dedicated forest

- Ontario: Employees held a special blood donation clinic

- Sault Ste. Marie: The branch joined 30 Family YMCA volunteers teaching children ages 8-14 basketball skills, teamwork, leadership and game skills

- Alberta: Employees helped a young couple in need to move their household belongings, clean-up and patch work on the residence

- Kitchener/Waterloo: Employees donated 440 lbs. of food to the Waterloo Regional Food Bank Project

- Newmarket: Staff participated in the 5km Running Maniacs Annual Fall Run. The event raised more than $4,000 for the Guide Walk for Dogs

- Edmonton: The Claims group collected personal care items for women, decorated wooden boxes and delivered it all to the Hope Mission to be distributed

- Mississauga: Staff volunteered with the Cooksville Phantoms Minor Bantam Hockey Team and the Erindale Lions Bantam A Baseball Team. They joined other volunteers holding team tryouts for 13-15 year old boys that involved throwing, catching, batting and fielding instruction and parent meetings.
