Canada's Technology Triangle Inc Travels to California to Further Attract ICT Investment to Waterloo Region

Waterloo Region – As a member of the Ontario Technology Corridor (OTC) Canada’s Technology Triangle Inc (CTT) will be traveling to Los Angeles (March 8-9) and San Francisco (March 10-12), California to promote Ontario, and specifically Waterloo Region, as the ideal place to establish digital media operations in North America. Included among the reasons are the extensive talent pool, strong and stable economy and the variety of investment incentives.

This foreign direct investment attraction mission will include meeting with animation and special effects companies in Los Angeles. The mission will continue as it travels to San Francisco to the Game Developers Conference where prequalified meetings have been arranged with global companies in the digital media sector that are seeking opportunities to expand their operations.

“Waterloo Region has a great story to share in the digital media sector. With the Communitech Hub, recent investments by Electronic Arts Sports, Intel, and previous investments by Google, the Region is primed for many opportunities. While many of these companies are involved in gaming or entertainment, they also have interests in the more broadly defined characteristics of digital media,” says Bill Elliot, Vice President Business Development, Canada’s Technology Triangle Inc. “The outstanding post secondary institutions and talent in the region make for great research and extended development occasions.”

Ontario has numerous incentives for gaming technology including: The Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), Ontario Intellectual Property Development Fund, Ontario Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit, and the Ontario Computer Animation and Special Effects Tax Credit.

The OTC’s digital entertainment revolution includes an increase of more than 8, 000 new jobs in Ontario’s entertainment and creative cluster over the past decade. This is an increase of 40% compared to the 17% in the overall Ontario economy. In addition, this cluster produces $15 Billion in annual revenue and provides over 200,000 jobs.
