Google Nexus One Now in Canada

Surprisingly, it only took three months. Google's Nexus One is now available for purchase to Canadians as an unlocked device via the new Google Web Store.

The new version of the Android-based phone operates via GSM SIM card, and will work on the Rogers Wireless network in Canada and AT&T in the U.S.

In addition to Rogers and AT&T, Google says that this new Nexus One "can be used with most GSM operators globally," as can the first edition of the phone. Bell Mobility says that the device is indeed compatible with its HSPA network as well.

The chance to legitimately purchase a mobile device, than pop in your SIM card, has typically been almost unheard of in Canada. But it's a step in the right direction, and hopefully one that the industry will continue to follow.
