Acquisition of Shares of Burntsand Inc.

WATERLOO - Burntsand Inc. announced yesterday that it has entered into a definitive agreement with Open Text(TM) Corporation under which Open Text expects to acquire all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Burntsand through a Burntsand shareholder-approved amalgamation with a subsidiary of Open Text under the Canada Business Corporations Act (the "Agreement").

Phased-in retirement program on offer for faculty

Kingston - Queen’s and the Queen’s University Faculty Association (QUFA) have jointly developed a phased-in retirement program for continuing QUFA members. Under the program a faculty member’s retirement can be phased in through a combination of financial incentives with reduced workloads and salaries over two or three years. The maximum amount of a financial incentive available is $100,000 and the maximum number of participants is 80 with specific limits set out on a unit basis.

McMaster has been awarded more than $11.6 million in research grants.

Hamilton - The new funds come from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and will support the work of 64 investigators. Projects range from molecular and developmental genetics, evolution and ecology, plant biology and food science, industrial engineering and inorganic and organic chemistry.

Active Healthy Kids Canada Releases 2010 Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth

TORONTO - If you think of curious, busy preschoolers as "active," you may want to think again. According to the 2010 Active Healthy Kids Canada Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth, Canadian kids five and younger are dangerously physically inactive. Healthy habits must start young, as lifestyle patterns set in the early years predict obesity and health outcomes in later childhood, and even through adulthood. The Report Card was released today by Active Healthy Kids Canada and its strategic partners, ParticipACTION and the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Research Institute - Healthy Active Living and Obesity Research Group (HALO).

The Private Label Credit Card Dilemma

Once upon a time, not very long ago, actually senior finance and marketing executives at specialty retailers across the U.S. were quite excited about the promise of stronger customer loyalty and increased purchasing to be generated by offering a proprietary or co-branded credit card. The idea, enthusiastically touted by credit card issuers, was that a proprietary card could not only in and of itself be a source of revenue to the retailer, but also would serve as a major source of customer shopping behavior data for purposes of developing insight based customer engagement strategies.

Carleton Professor to Investigate Memory Problems of Breast Cancer Survivors

Ottawa – Many breast cancer survivors report memory problems and say that they have difficulty getting assistance to cope. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Ontario Region has approved funding for a study that looks at the issue. The team of researchers led by Lise Paquet, a psychology professor at Carleton University, will receive $65,880 over two years.
