The Perimeter Institute: A Gold Mine of Brilliance and a Gold Seal Managed Project
Waterloo - The Perimeter Institute of Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario is a building where some of the finest scientific minds in the world call home. Now, the building itself will have its own world-class designations including LEED certification as well as being a Gold Seal Managed project.
It makes sense that the much-needed 54,000-square-foot addition is led and constructed by only the best-trained Gold Seal Certified construction professionals. Its designation as a Gold Seal Managed project means that everyone on the site, who is undertaking more than $100, 000 worth of work, must be Gold Seal Certified. This is an assurance that the construction project management personnel employed on site have attained a nationally recognized level of experience and competence as a Superintendent, Estimator or Project Manager.
“The world looks to the Perimeter Institute for scientific research that push the limits of our understanding of physical laws and develop groundbreaking new ideas that change the way we think about the universe,” says Martha George, President of the Grand Valley Construction Association. “The construction industry of Waterloo Region, under the leadership of Ball Construction, feel strongly that the Perimeter Institute building itself be constructed with leading-edge methods and in accordance to the highest standards in construction, which means it has to be a Gold Seal managed project. Only excellence is acceptable.”
The Perimeter Institute’s addition will feature an ionized exterior and glass to match the existing building. Currently, the Perimeter Institute has 85 researchers and many visiting scholars, including the world’s most famous living physicist, Stephen Hawking, who will visit the Perimeter Institute this summer.
The addition will allow for growth, tripling the number of researchers.
“I am thrilled to be the Construction Managers of this important new addition to the renowned Perimeter Institute,” says Cameron Ball, Project Manager. “Having the entire project be a Gold Seal Managed project assures that the Perimeter Institute will receive the highest standards in construction available anywhere.”
Approximately 50 Gold Seal Certified individuals will be working on the $25 million project, slated to be complete in June 2011.
