MUSLIM SOCIAL SERVICES ANNOUNCES UNIQUE PROGRAM FOR NEWCOMER REFUGEE YOUTH
Kitchener/Waterloo - Muslim Social Services of Kitchener-Waterloo will present a unique, five-session program for newcomer refugee youth beginning Saturday, January 23, 2010. The program, “Welcome to Canada”, is a youth-led initiative with volunteers from area high schools and universities sharing activities, learning and friendship with refugee youth, ages 13 18.
Muslim Social Services has innovatively partnered with the Region of Waterloo’s Public Health Division, Mosaic Counselling and Family Services, and Wilfrid Laurier University to present the program, running from 3:00 5:00 p.m. on consecutive Saturdays from January 23 February 20, 2010. The program will be held at Chandler-Mowat Community Centre, 222 Chandler Drive, Kitchener.
Muslim Social Services extends a warm welcome to all refugee youth to attend the free program which will feature weekly guest lecturers speaking on relevant topics including: School Integration, Conflict Resolution, Stress Management, Mental and Physical Health, Nutrition and Substance Abuse. Teens will also enjoy computer and gym activities.
