MUSLIM SOCIAL SERVICES ANNOUNCES UNIQUE PROGRAM FOR NEWCOMER REFUGEE YOUTH

Kitchener/Waterloo - Muslim Social Services of Kitchener-Waterloo will present a unique, five-session program for newcomer refugee youth beginning Saturday, January 23, 2010. The program, “Welcome to Canada”, is a youth-led initiative with volunteers from area high schools and universities sharing activities, learning and friendship with refugee youth, ages 13 – 18.

Muslim Social Services has innovatively partnered with the Region of Waterloo’s Public Health Division, Mosaic Counselling and Family Services, and Wilfrid Laurier University to present the program, running from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on consecutive Saturdays from January 23 – February 20, 2010. The program will be held at Chandler-Mowat Community Centre, 222 Chandler Drive, Kitchener.

Muslim Social Services extends a warm welcome to all refugee youth to attend the free program which will feature weekly guest lecturers speaking on relevant topics including: School Integration, Conflict Resolution, Stress Management, Mental and Physical Health, Nutrition and Substance Abuse. Teens will also enjoy computer and gym activities.
