17th Annual Emergency Services Muster, Games and Parade

Waterloo Region - The Waterloo Regional Fire Services Mutual Aid Association, in co-operation with Waterloo Region Museum hosts the 17th Annual Waterloo Region Emergency Services, Games and Parade at Doon Heritage Village on May 29 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The annual event features ongoing demonstrations using the Mobile Kitchen-Fire Simulator donated to the Kitchener and Waterloo Fire Departments by Coldwell Banker Peter Benninger Realty to educate the public on how to prevent stovetop fires, the number one cause of residential fires. Back by popular demand is the Waterloo Region Police Matrix Simulator and Impairment Goggles, sponsored by Toyota. The simulator illustrates the affects that alcohol have on drivers. Ongoing demonstrations that focus on public education and safety take place throughout the day including the Waterloo Regional Police Canine Unit and back by popular demand, the outhouse fire and modern tiered response scenario. Displays, emergency services related collectibles, great food, and a parade of historical vehicles will round out a day of fun, education and entertainment for the whole family.

The ‘Muster’ will be the gathering of fire engines and other emergency service vehicles, on display for visitors to look at – both inside and out. Vintage and new fire, ambulance and police vehicles will take part.

Traditionally, firefighter’s games or competitions were a test of basic firefighting skills and equipment. The spirit is alive and well today as teams representing different fire departments will compete in games of water ball, bucket races and ladder and hose races.

Admission to the event is by cash donation to this year’s two emergency service supported programs; CPR training mannequins; and Racing Against Drugs. The first 500 children through the gate will receive a plastic firefighter’s Hat. For more information call Waterloo Region Museum/Doon Heritage Village at 519-748-1914.

Visitor Parking for the event will be at Canada Alloy Casting’ parking lot and at CompX Waterloo parking lots, located at the corner of Homer Watson Boulevard and Manitou Drive in Kitchener. Free shuttle bus service to and from Doon will be provided throughout the day.
