Waterloo In a public address before a packed audience at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI), Prof. Stephen Hawking, PI Distinguished Research Chair, recounted his research, life and times, saying that it has been a glorious period to contribute to our picture of the universe. Prof. Hawking is conducting private research activities at PI this summer, in what is expected to be the first of many visits.

Statscan - In April, 667,400 people received regular Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, virtually unchanged from the previous month. The number of people receiving regular EI benefits has declined by 161,900 since the peak of 829,300 reached in June 2009, a drop of 19.5%.

Statscan - The composite leading index rose by 0.9% in May, about equal to its average increase over the past year. However, the upturn in the index a year ago was led by housing and the stock market. These components have stopped contributing to growth, replaced instead by the manufacturing components. The US leading indicator has been a consistent source of growth over the past year.
