Apple launches iPad tablet computer

Steve Jobs, Apple's chief executive, has unveiled the iPad, a 'revolutionary' touch-screen, tablet-style computer.

The iPad, which resembles a giant iPhone, has a 9.7in full-colour touch-screen, and can be used to watch movies, surf the internet, listen to music, view photos, and read ebooks and digital versions of newspapers and magazines. Jobs described the device as a "truly magical and revolutionary product".

Statscan - From 1997 to 2008, business sector productivity increased at an annual average rate of 1.3% in Canada. However, productivity growth slowed considerably after 2003 when compared with the 1997-to-2003 period. All provinces experienced a slowdown between the two periods with the main contributors being Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec.

Vitamin D supplements could fight Crohn's Disease

Canadian research team publishes findings in Journal of Biological Chemistry

Montreal - A new study has found that Vitamin D, readily available in supplements or cod liver oil, can counter the effects of Crohn’s disease. John White, an endocrinologist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre, led a team of scientists from McGill University and the Université de Montréal who present their findings about the inflammatory bowel disease in the latest Journal of Biological Chemistry.

Western makes record-breaking donation to the United Way of London & Middlesex

London - Western President Amit Chakma announced yesterday a record-breaking gift of $590,383 to the United Way of London & Middlesex on behalf of the university’s faculty, staff, retirees and students. The total surpasses last year’s donation of $534,000, making it the largest employee-generated donation ever to the local United Way.
