MedShare™ and Qualicode Launch BlackBerry® application in Quebec

Quebec City, QC - MedShare announced their multi-lingual BlackBerry application for home care is now available in Quebec. Qualicode, based in Montreal has been working to integrate the BlackBerry application into their industry leading home health management solution. Qualicode’s Quebec customers now have access to an important point of care tool that extends their existing IT investment.

MedShare’s BlackBerry solution allows home care workers to access their client list, client health information and schedule on the popular BlackBerry device. Real time updates from the Qualicode Qt Time&Resources application are communicated through the wireless data network to the BlackBerry. Mobile health care workers check-in and check-out of their client visits which delivers visit confirmation and travel expense data back to Qualicode.

Qualicode Software Inc. is the software leader in Quebec for Agency Management, offering innovative solutions like Qx Cardex and Qt Time&Resources for time and attendance in the home care and security industries. Qualicode and MedShare have created the first bilingual version of MedShare for BlackBerry, providing the revolutionary mobile point of care solution in both English and French. This “made in Canada” solution features two leading Health IT software firms utilizing the popular BlackBerry device manufactured by Research in Motion®.

The MedShare for BlackBerry application eliminates paper schedules, time sheets and travel expense claims. The real time visit and travel expense capture saves time in the field and also provides greater accuracy to the agency. According to Barry Billings, MedShare’s President,”our research show a 25-40% gain in administrative efficiency within the agency office. While cost savings are important, empowering health care workers to deliver informed, quality care is the real benefit of the MedShare application on BlackBerry”.

Real-time schedule updates allow health care workers to visit new clients faster. As new clients appear in the schedule, their demographic, health and service order information is instantly available to the health care worker. Workers can instantly generate a map and get travel directions to their next visit. The BlackBerry allows the worker to document the visit in the home, recording the services delivered and entering progress notes. The progress notes are available to all workers assigned to the client providing continuity of care within the health care team.

The foundation of the solution is an Electronic Health Record (EHR) that integrates with Qualicode’s client database through an HL7 standard connector. Patient demographic and health information is made available on the BlackBerry and optionally tablet computers. MedShare uses a store and forward design to provide 100% system availability at the point of care.

Billings says, “the partnership between MedShare and Qualicode is essential to supporting the BlackBerry launch in Quebec. Nicolas and his team have a deep understanding of the Quebec home health care system gained through 17 years of hard work. We are honored that Nicolas and his team selected MedShare to be their partner in Quebec.”

MedShare is the first home health care application available in French. According to MedShare, the multilingual version allows the worker to dynamically select between English and French. Several of Canada’s largest home care agencies are using MedShare’s mobile health solutions in British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia and soon in Quebec.

Qualicode is working with over 70% of the public and private health providers in Quebec, empowering them with software solutions to effectively and efficiently operate their businesses. Qx Cardex provides clinical solutions for nurses on a laptop platform, Qt Time&Resources provides home care workers and administration staff scheduling, payroll, and billing, and Qi Inventory for managing all types of inventory and immobilizations levels in the office or remotely.

MedShare and Qualicode are demonstrating the BlackBerry solution at the 2010 CHCA Home Care Summit in Quebec City, Quebec November 3 – 5.
