Boyd Devereaux Joins the Hot Shots Street Hockey Team as a Champion for Children!

WATERLOO - The 6th annual Keller Williams Hot Shots Street Hockey Tournament for Family and Children’s Services Foundation is back, and organizers are offering a fun-filled event for the whole family. And this year’s event will include former Kitchener Ranger, Boyd Devereaux, as the tournament’s official spokesperson!

“We are extremely excited to have Boyd as the tournament spokesperson,” says Bryce McCandless, Hot Shots Committee Chair and Family and Children’s Services Foundation Vice President, “He will bring the tournament to a whole new level.”

The dollars raised during Hot Shots go directly to help local children involved with Family and Children’s Services attend summer camps. Children like Chloe* and Jeremy*, who have witnessed violence and drug use - things no child should ever have to see.

For Devereaux, the decision to join the Hot Shots Street Hockey Tournament team was a no-brainer, “all kids deserve the opportunity to experience sport and recreation, no matter what their circumstances are.” He adds, “the fact that the Hot Shots Street Hockey tournament provides these important opportunities for local kids in need is near to my heart.”

At any point in time Family and Children’s Services has over 500 children in its care and are working with over 1200 families in the community. In 2010, we received 640 requests for camp, the highest number we have ever seen. With funds raised in the Hot Shots tournament kids like Chloe and Jeremy will get a chance to just be kids, to participate, build confidence and self-esteem while having fun!

This year’s tournament will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Sportsworld Crossing, (behind Moose Winooski’s). And the public is reminded that you don’t have to play in the tournament to enjoy the day! There will be a fun-filled Street Fair available as well.

For a nominal donation, children are invited to enjoy the Street Fair activities from 10am to 3pm, including:
