Enermodal Engineering Named Top Consulting Engineering Employer in Canada
Kitchener - Enermodal Engineering was named one of the Top 10 Best Workplaces in Canada. At an awards ceremony on April 11, 2011 at the Four Seasons in Toronto, the Great Place to Work Institute recognized the 100 best places to work from across the country. Of the seven consulting engineering firms on this annual list published in a 16-page Globe and Mail section, Enermodal was the only firm to place in the Top 10.
Enermodal was also the only Waterloo Region firm to make it into the Top 10.
The evaluation of Enermodal’s corporate culture and policies identified several strengths:
* Enermodal’s LEED Platinum offices in Kitchener, Calgary, and Toronto which provide superior indoor air quality and daylighting for employees
* A Kitchener headquarters that is most energy-efficient office in Canada and includes employee garden plots
* Enermodal’s three-part mission to inspire employees: 1. Save the world energy and resources through greener buildings 2. Have fun 3. Make enough money to do one and two
* Green employee incentives developed by The Employee Sustainability Committee, including $1,500-3,000 off the purchase of a high-efficiency vehicle, 60% off transit passes, and free low-flow shower heads, rain barrels, and compost bins
* An in-house software program for all employees to log their daily commute to track the company’s carbon emissions and reward those to minimize or reduce their individual carbon emissions as part of the corporate goal of going carbon neutral
* Employee pride in their work as the company only works on high performance, green buildings

This list of “Best Workplaces in Canada” is compiled by Great Place to Work® Institute Canada. The competition process is based on two criteria: two-thirds of the total score comes from a 58-statement survey completed by employees, along with their open-ended comments about their organization; the remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organization’s culture, including an evaluation of HR policies and procedures. This offers a rigorous representation of the organization from an employee perspective, and an overall portrait of the workplace culture. Together, they provide crucial data relative to the five trust-building dimensions of a great place to work: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.
This year’s list received over 230 nominations and approximately 44,000 employees participated in the 2011 “Best Workplaces in Canada” survey.
