Waterloo Region Tech Sector Strongly Favors Light Rail Transit System, New Communitech Survey Shows

‘Option L3’ Endorsed by Communitech for Consideration by Officials

Waterloo – A survey of tech companies in Waterloo Region indicates overwhelming support for Light Rail Transit for the area, a survey released by Communitech shows. As a result, Communitech has formally endorsed option L3 put forward by regional staff for consideration, and plans to convey the survey results to all regional elected officials before the anticipated June vote on rapid transit.




Waterloo - CU Expo 2011 (May 10-14, 2011) will bring together research and practice to strengthen practical approaches for social change across a range of issues from poverty to public health - that combine the strengths of academia and community in unique partnerships and programs. This event will draw 600 community practitioners, academics, students and policy makers from across North America and the world to Wilfrid Laurier University. Registration remains open for CU Expo, and one-day bursaries are still available for local community members.

Waterloo - Ontario is helping to reduce the time Waterloo Region residents spend in emergency rooms. This year, Grand River Hospital is receiving $935,400, St. Mary’s General Hospital is receiving $764,500 and Cambridge Memorial Hospital is receiving $782,100 to further reduce ER wait times.

Waterloo – Supportive Housing of Waterloo, a charitable non-profit organisation operating a residence for the homeless in the City held its Annual General Meeting this past Tuesday and has elected a new Board of Directors for the coming year. Chairing the new Board is Barry Cull, a 59 year-old resident of Waterloo, and a professor at the Conestoga College School of Liberal Studies.

Consolidated net income was $25.8 million compared to $31.8 million for the same quarter in 2010. Ontario Home Starts Edge Lower in April

TORONTO - Ontario preliminary Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate of home starts across urban(i) centres moderated for the first time in four months in April. An estimated 65,600 residential housing units got started in the latest month, down from 71,300 units in March.
