Should we keep the outdoors out of hospitals? Ecologist and TED Fellow Jessica Green has found that mechanical ventilation does get rid of many types of microbes, but the wrong kinds: the ones left in the hospital are much more likely to be pathogens.

TORONTO - BRANTFORD - The United Steelworkers has reached a final resolution of the controversy over severance pay for 84 workers at Engineered Coated Products in Brantford. Workers were forced on strike at the ECP plant in August 2008, after the parent company, Intertape Polymer, demanded a 25% rollback of wages and benefits.

Statscan - Municipalities issued building permits worth $6.6 billion in June, up 2.1% from May, when growth was 20.9%. The increase in June was largely attributable to higher construction intentions for industrial and institutional buildings in Ontario and multi-family dwellings in British Columbia.

Automatic Transmission Control Module Software Recall: 2005-2010 Accords, 2007-2010 CR-V's and 2005-2008 Elements

MARKHAM - Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 135,142 vehicles in Canada to update the software that controls the automatic transmission. Certain 2005-2010 4-cylinder Accord, 2007-2010 CR-V and 2005-2008 Element vehicles will be included in the voluntary recall.

July 2011 auto sales reported

TORONTO - Toyota Canada Inc. reported sales of 12,167 Toyota, Lexus and Scion cars, trucks and SUVs in July, 2011. TCI experienced rebounding sales in July which coincided with the ramp-up of North American built production. Although a decrease of 18.2% from July 2010, TCI July 2011 sales exceeded both May and June of this year. The company recorded a 6.1% month over month increase from June to July, against an estimated 14.2% decline in the total Canadian market over that same period.

Strong July sales results and records new sales milestones reported

TORONTO - Mercedes-Benz Canada and its network of highly supportive dealers reported today that a total of 2,276 Mercedes-Benz and smart units were delivered to customers in July. This represents a 4.0% year-to-date sales increase, with a record-breaking total of 19,036 units delivered so far in 2011.

Best July for auto sales on record in 86 year history

WINDSOR - Chrysler Canada today announced the best July sales in the Company's history, reporting sales of 23,385 for the month of July, 2011 compared with 22,319 in July 2010. July sales were up 5 per cent versus one year ago, representing the 20th consecutive month of year-over-year growth.

Preferred Share issue announced

TORONTO - Sun Life Financial Inc. announced a Canadian public offering of $200 million of Class A Non-Cumulative Rate Reset Preferred Shares Series 10R (the "Series 10R Shares"). The Series 10R Shares will be issued to the public at a price of $25.00 per share and holders will be entitled to receive non-cumulative preferential fixed quarterly dividends for the initial period ending September 30, 2016, as and when declared by the Company's board of directors, payable in the amount of $0.24375 per Preferred Share, to yield 3.90 per cent annually.
